What are Structured Date Text Default Patterns?
Structured dates in CollectionSpace are a group of nine fields (see the structured date schema) that allow users to add more than just a single date (e.g. 1925) to their cataloging, procedural, and vocabulary term records.
Each structured date group includes a date text field - a textual expression of the contents of all the fields in the structured date schema. See the illustration below for how the date text field appears in the user interface.
The date text field can be edited manually, or its contents can be auto-generated based on values in the other eight fields. In the table below, we've set up some default patterns to show off this functionality; of course, each implementer will be able to define its own patterns. Some patterns show just a single field, others combine several fields, and others allow the date text field to fall back on a second choice field if the first choice is blank.
