Staff Interface

New Fields

The following new fields have been added based on requests from the community of CollectionSpace users:

  • Object > New Home Location and note field

  • Acquisition > New Alternate Identifier and note field

Changes to Functionality

Version 9.0 includes a trio of enhancements requested by the community over the years. These enhancements include:

  • Priority Order for Media Handling related to Objects: Users can determine the priority order of images related to objects.

  • Pinned Queries: Users can pin queries into a saved list and retrieve the pinned queries when using the Advanced Search page.

  • Home Storage Locations (overlap with new field): Users can denote the home or permanent storage location directly on the object record. Users can search for objects by home location.

Accessibility Improvements

Version 9.0 includes changes to improve the accessibility of CollectionSpace as identified in the VPAT issued with the 8.3 release. Improvements include:

  • Improved contrast for all buttons. Noted by the shift to blue buttons (from green) throughout and red buttons for delete actions.

  • Pairing labels with form elements. Previously, many errors resulted throughout the application because form elements were not appropriately paired with or had missing form labels. This has been resolved.

Security and Backend Dependency Updates

Version 9.0 includes changes to improve the overall security of the CollectionSpace application. These changes will result in a new HECVAT form release for Lyrasis-hosted clients.

  • Password complexity has been introduced to CollectionSpace.

  • Upgrade from Java 8 to 21

  • Upgrade backend dependencies

Bug fixes

Version 9.0 includes fixes to small bugs. Expand the full detail view above for the full list.

Browser

The following changes were made to the browser and are available with the 4.0.0 release of the browser:

  • Change the default sort order of Media Handling images to Title (0-Zz), and support for Priority Order for Media Handling. This aligns the browser sort with the sort in the staff UI.

  • ElasticSearch 7 support: The browser now works with ElasticSearch 7.17.x and OpenSearch 1, matching the search engine upgrade in the CollectionSpace 9.0 backend. Compatibility with ElasticSearch 5 (end of life since 2019) has been dropped, which is why this is a major version release. Browser 4.0.0 requires CollectionSpace 9.0.
