This group preferred the term "Labels" and

  • Ontologies
  • metadata
  • crosswalks
  • taxonomies
  • interpretation

Know your domain

  • Rules and regulations plus preferred Labels
  • Have choices or know options for Labels
  • And, who is using them

Use existing Labels where possible

  • Extend, enhance or otherwise customize existing Labels
  • Justify and audit
  • Share changes back to originating community
  • Graceful degradation

Build your own Labels
Effective integration with user interface
User-generated tags
Tie to data clean-up, data harmonization

Group B

Issues: may not have vocab, general issue of point of view and expressibility of CV.

Difference between interchange with other institutions, versus internal consistency. Former needs locked CV, latter does not.

Issue of recording verbatim data essential, and may introduce tension with use of CV. If use CV, may change original data.
