Test 1: Merge Authority Items

Action

  • Click on the Tools item in the top menu bar

  • Click on the Data Updates tab, and then Merge Authority Items

Expected

  • Merge Authority Items data update description will show on the right

Action

  • Click on the Run button at the top or bottom of the Merge Authority Items description page

Expected

  • The Merge Authority Items source/target selection popup will open

Action

  • Click on the Select button (underneath Record*)

Expected

  • The SOURCE term search dialogue will open

Action

  • Select your assigned Authority (e.g. Citation) from the dropdown at the top of the page

  • Enter QA Source into the keyword search box

  • Click on the Search button at the bottom of the page

Expected

  • A list of search results will be returned; at least one result should be QA Source [Authority], e.g. QA Source Work.

Action

  • Click on the checkbox to the left of the QA Source search result

  • Click on Use Selection

Expected

  • You will return to the Merge Authority Items source/target selection popup

  • The QA Source term will be in the Record* box

Action

  • Click in the box under Target Record*

  • Enter in QA Target

Expected

  • The predictive search interface will return a list of search results; at least one result should be QA Target [Authority], e.g. QA Target Work

Action

  • Click on the QA Target Term

Expected

  • The QA Target Term will appear in the Target Record* Box

Action

  • Click on the Run button

Expected

  • You will receive a confirmation message: “Completed Merge Authority Items: [Some number of] records affected. Updated the target record, QA TARGET [Authority]. [Some number of] records referenced the source record, QA SOURCE [Authority]. Deleted the source record, QA SOURCE [Authority].”

Test 2 - Confirm Authority Items Merged

Action

  • In the top search box, choose your assigned Authority from the dropdown

  • Search for QA Source

Expected

  • Only QA Target will be returned

Action

  • Click on QA Target

Expected

  • QA Source will appear as a non-preferred term for QA Target

Action

  • In the top search box, choose Objects from the dropdown

    • Exception: If you are testing Storage Locations, choose Location/Movement/Inventory

  • Search for QA Merge

Expected

  • At least one record with an ID number that contains QA Merge Source will be returned

Action

  • Click on the record ID that contains QA Merge Source

  • After the record opens, check the following field depending on your assigned authority to confirm that the Source term has been replaced by the Target term:

    • Citations: Object > Reference Information > Reference

    • Concepts: Object > Object Description Information > Content > Concept

    • Organizations: Object > Object Production Information > Object Production Organization

    • Persons: Object > Object Production Information > Object Production Person

    • Places: Object > Object Collection Information > Field Collection Place

    • Storage Locations: Location/Movement/Inventory > Current Location

    • Taxon: Object > Object Description Information > Biological Information > Scientific name

    • Work: Object > Object Description Information > Content > Work
