Overview

Moving Image's current collections management system (CMS) is primarily used as a cataloging and online presentation tool. The Museum has not kept pace with upgrades to the system, and therefore has not been able to take advantage of many of its collections management capabilities. In 2006, the Museum migrated to its current CMS from an Access database; artifacts from this migration are still present and will be cleaned up either prior to the migration or as part of it.

Below is a functional analysis of the existing CMS. A complete data model of the existing CMS and map to CollectionSpace are available on the data analysis and mapping page.

Cataloging

Moving Image's current CMS supports a cataloging schema roughly based on the VRACore 3.0. Some changes and additions were made to that schema based on the vagaries of the collection. The cataloging section is divided into a number of tabs, each of which handles a separate area of description.
