Media Handling Functional Analysis
Overview
The CMS is the core repository for all collections images at MMI. Media are attached and managed via edit>cataloging>representations.
Representations
Contains all digital images, audio, video, etc. related to catalog records. Files are uploaded by browse + select.
Use: Frequent
Notes:
- Representations are tied to catalog records, if the same image shows two different objects it must be uploaded twice.
- A catalog record may have more than one representation attached, one must be designated as primary (the first file attached will be automatically assigned this designation)
- Representations may be public or hidden - if a record is published but a representation is hidden, it does not appear to the public.
- Representations may be added by browse or via the filespace.
- Zoomable images and derivatives are generated on the fly (ImageMagick, Tilepic, etc.).

Contains files that have been uploaded but not yet assigned to a specific object.
Use: Often
Notes:
- Files can be uploaded singly or as a .zip
- Files cannot be assigned to an object record via the filespace; rather, the filespace is accessed via the representations tab in cataloging
- Files may be deleted from the filespace
