PAHMA customizations—Cataloging

Mock-up of PAHMA Cataloging

The default layout was adjusted to better fit PAHMA's needs. The changes that were made included the following (each of these types of changes will be detailed below):

  • hiding unused information groups
  • changing the default visibility to "folded" (i.e., minimized) for infrequently used information groups
  • adding custom stand-alone information groups and information units
  • adding new custom information units to existing information groups
  • moving information groups and information units
  • changing the labels of information groups and information units
  • customizing controlled lists
  • customizing authorities
Hiding unused information groups

Two information groups (Object Owner's Contribution Information and Object Viewer's Contribution Information) need to be completely hidden, as shown here. Depending upon whether custom fields can be added to existing field groups, the Other Number group may also need to be hidden

Changing default visibility of infrequently used information groups

Three information groups (Textual Inscription, Non-Textual Inscription, and Repatriation and Cultural Sensitivity Information) need to be changed to "folded" by default, as illustrated here.

Adding custom stand-alone information groups and information units

The information groups and information units that were added are illustrated here.

Adding new custom information units to existing information groups

If possible, a "notes" field should be added to the Other Number (renamed "Alternate Numbers") and Dimension information groups as shown here. If not possible, then Other Number ("Alternate Numbers") should be hidden and replaced with a custom information group called "Alternate Numbers" that has a "Notes" field in addition to the "Number" and "Number Type" fields. For Dimension, a separate stand-alone custom field called "Dimension Notes" field should be added, to avoid sacrificing the forthcoming "Dimensions summary" functionality.

Adding a custom NAGPRA procedure

A custom procedure to handle critical NAGPRA Compliance Information should be considered (see initial mock-up here).

Moving information groups and information units

The UI layout for Object Cataloging needs to be redesigned to better fit the PAHMA cataloging workflow. PAHMA is experimenting with a 3-tier cataloging workflow (1: minimal cataloging; 2: basic cataloging; 3: full/curatorial cataloging). To the extent possible, the information required for the "Minimal" and "Basic" levels of cataloging should be clustered together at the top of the layout to maximize the efficiency of cataloging.
The information groups and information units that were moved are illustrated here.

Relabeling information units and information groups

The labels that need to be changed are detailed here and illustrated here.

Changing the functionality of fields

The fields that need to have their functionality changed (to controlled list, authority, or uncontrolled) are shown here.

Customizing controlled lists

The controlled lists that need to be customized are detailed here.

Customizing authorities

The authorities that need to be customized are detailed here.

Customizing summary fields

The summary fields in the RH related panel that need to be customized will be detailed shortly.
