UCJEPS_2013-02-13
We have additional unresolved tasks documented on Jira but those below are probably higher priority at this point in time.
Meeting summary
In the 2/13/2013 meeting, UCJEPS agreed on these priorities:
- Populate Major Group field on taxonomy with data that UCJEPS is providing. Provide a mechanism to extract Major Group data on a weekly basis and provide it to UCJEPS (Dick Moe) who can do some ongoing counts.
- Advanced search enhancements: Search across record types, hierarchical search, not or null searches. E.g., Give me specimens records (from cataloging) for bryophytes (from taxonomy) from North America (from Place Authority if we had it, or derive from locality information). E.g., Give me specimens that don't have data in the collector field. Note that this might be done as enhancements to the CSpace UI or by developing a web application.
The public portal is still important but UCJEPS first needs to be able to accomplish some internal data management tasks, including those above but also: export data, batch import user interface (like Biovalidator). Symbiota might be a good open source solution for the public portal component. Cached data (as opposed to hitting the production data in real time) is probably sufficient if data are refreshed nightly though there is some desire for real-time data access.Â
Done recently (since mid-December)
- Rotating images (still checking these on a regular basis)
- Import Darwin images
- Batch imports - GOD collection, Ahart volunteer data
- Duplicate Accession Number report (Cataloging)
- Duplicate File Name report (Media Handling)
- Investigate rotating images
- Ongoing: Link media handling records to cataloging records
Ready to be tested
- Updated county and country names that were in all caps
- Changing some field labels for coordinates and coordinate systems
- Added Major Taxonomic Group field
Left over from past conversations
- Public Interface
- Major taxa
- Duplicate accession number flag/UI warning
Priorities for next steps
- Public interface
- Private version?
- Major group, approach 1: Extract data and give it to Dick
- Major group, approach 2: import hierarchical relations from SMaSCH, set hierarchy for taxa entered directly into CSpace, derive Major Taxonomic Group or import from other data sources, write report that will help count bryphytes
- Import bryophyte names from Tropicos
- Build integration between CSpace taxonomy and Tropicos for names
- Fix lat/long values that are 0.0
- Import clear leaf data
- Exports/imports - build a batch import tool
- Using advanced queries
Have to do and it will be a good thing
- Upgrade to CollectionSpace 3.2.1
