Collection Items data mapping questions
Note that there are pending questions on the fit-gap page that also effect data mapping for collection items.
Resolved
Censor (on Asian Collection layout) and Seals (on Asian Collection and Drawings layouts) fields
There are numerous records with both Seal values and Censor values. CollectionSpace does have a Non-textual inscription/Inscription Description field which is repeating in CSpace. a) We could migrate those records as repeating. That would complicate the data migration somewhat. b) We could concatenate the two fields (Censor and Seal) together. c) Or we could add text fields for Seal and Censor. Resolution: b) Concatenate the two fields into non-textual inscription.
Series Title
999 records have data in this field, which is displayed on the Asian Collection layout. Add field but what to call it? "Asian Collection Series Title"? Or reuse an existing field such as Reference Information or Production Note? Or merge with other data into another field such as Notes or Curator Comments?
Resolution: Add field, Series Title, and place in Classification section.
Part Of
Approx 6700 non-null records. These might always refer to membership in a Collection. E.g., 2997 records = "MOCA Archive". But many or most of these seem to also be in the proper Collection field. Should we skip this, clean it up, or add a new field?
Resolution: Add field, Part Of, and place in Classification section.

Boolean fields: Americas, Asian Collection, Europe.
These were used in the older FMPro screens to facilitate searches. These are separate from the Collection field and the Subjects/Themes fields which will be migrated. Americas: 880 objects; Asian Collection: 2672 objects; Europe: 210 objects. Because these are old fields, there's no guarantee that this information is up to date in FMPro. Options: a) Create three boolean fields and migrate data as is. b) Create a multi-value "geographic coverage" field, and convert data into a new format. c) Find a different field such as Associated Place.
Resolution: Do not migrate these data fields; do not create new fields in schema. Add future JIRA task for geotagging.
Materials
CSpace Materials are a repeating field group (material, component, note, name, source) and are meant for very atomic material names (wax, copper). In FMPro, field occasionally has this kind of information, but is more often like: "handwritten 1-page letter with envelope" or something much, much longer. I recommend using the Physical Description text field for this information.
Resolution: We will use Physical Description and rename to Materials. No parsing.
Number of Scans
We probably should just add this field but might need to discuss Media Handling workflows to see if this field is needed.
Resolution: We will add a numeric field for cataloging.
Permission to Reproduce
8 records have 0; remaining are blank. Migrate all records as false or true?
Resolution: Do not migrate these values.
